PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber which substantially maintains single mode propagation as a solid photonic band gap fiber and of which effective core cross-sectional area is enlarged, and a fiber module, and furthermore a fiber amplifier and a fiber laser.;SOLUTION: In a solid photonic band gap fiber, a core region of a center part of a cross section across the longitudinal direction of the fiber is formed from a solid material having low refraction; a base material of a cladding region which surrounds the core region is formed from a solid material having low refraction; and a large number of minute high-refraction scatterers which are formed from a solid material having high refraction are dispersedly arranged in the base material of the cladding region so as to surround the core region. The solid photonic band gap fiber is configured such that in a state of being maintained at a prescribed bend radius, using the difference in bend loss between a reference mode and a high-order mode, the bend loss arising from bending, restricts high-order mode propagation, substantially propagating only in reference mode.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
