PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a depth-of-field expansion system and a depth-of-field expansion method for quickly expanding a depth of field and provide a distance image.SOLUTION: A depth-of-field expansion method includes the steps of: photographing one first photographed image by performing focal distance control of an optical system of a depth expansion lens system and gain modulation of imaging means in synchronization and by long-time exposure with means of imaging, and one second photographed image by performing gain modulation in an increasing direction opposite to that of the first gain modulation; constituting a distance image from the first photographed image and the second photographed image; and re-constituting a depth-of-field expansion image from the first photographed image, the second photographed image and the distance image.
