The present invention provides a dialkyl ether represented by the following formula (1), and a lubricating base oil and a lubricating oil composition containing the dialkyl ether; the lubricating base oil and the lubricating oil composition exhibit low viscosity, excellent viscosity-temperature characteristics, and excellent low-temperature fluidity. (wherein each of R 1 and R 2 represents a C1 to C20 alkyl group, and n is an integer of 1 to 20).
