Adhesion promoter, in particular for improving the adhesion of a printing ink or a printing varnish to a substrate, in particular on a foodstuff packaging, wherein the adhesion promoter contains a copolymer which consists of i) at least one C1-5-alkyl titanate monomer and / or C1-5-alkylzirconate monomer, wherein the alkyl radicals ii) at least one mono-C4-10-alkyl phosphate monomer and iii) at least one di-C4-10-alkyl phosphate monomer, wherein the mono- and di-C4-10-alkyl phosphate monomers are both linear and branched C4- 10-alkyl radicals, wherein the molar ratio of branched C4-10 alkyl radicals based on the sum of linear and branched C4-10 alkyl radicals in the copolymer is 10 to 90%.
