The present invention relates to a method for detecting a change in an electrical contact contact resistance between electrically conductive connection points of a battery system (1), which comprises a plurality of electrically interconnected battery cells (2) and at least one cell monitoring unit (5) for detecting at least one battery cell parameter, wherein by means of the at least one cell monitoring unit (5) at at least one point of the battery system (1) a voltage drop is detected, the detected voltage drop is transmitted to an evaluation unit (6) and the evaluation unit (6) taking into account the detected voltage drop an evaluation with respect to a change an electrical contact contact resistance of the battery system (1) performs. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a battery system (1) having a plurality of electrically interconnected battery cells (2), at least one cell monitoring unit (5) for detecting at least one battery cell parameter and an evaluation unit (6), wherein the battery system (1) for executing a inventive method is formed.
