An optical distribution system, a splicing handheld device, a kit for an optical distribution system and a method for the construction and managing of an optical distribution system;The system comprises:- an optical network and first and second remote optical devices (1211, 1220) connected to its ends;- a RFID tag attached to one or more of the optical network ends; and- a RFID tag reader (1311, 1315) arranged at the optical network end or at the optical device (1211, 1220) for reading the RFID tag and optically transmitting the read ID information through the optical network.;The splicing handheld device is adapted to perform an ID matching before splicing.;The kit comprises a fibre patch cord and an optical device (1211, 1220) which use RFID technology to read and optically transmit through the fibre patch cord RFID information.;The method comprises constructing the system of the invention.
