The present invention is suitable for use in the technical field of electronic communications and provides a determination method and system for a contention window (CW) in an adaptive backoff algorithm. The method comprises the following steps: step A: initializing a system, and initializing the value of the CW to be a system default value CWmin; step B: recording channel state and combining with historical channel state, and updating the CW value on the basis of the system default value of step A; step C: obtaining a backoff time slot by means of the updated CW value, obtaining, during said backoff time slot, channel utilization, and further obtaining transmission probability according to channel utilization; step D: obtaining a contention window change factor, then determining the CW according to the CW change factor and the transmission probability. The present invention obtains an optimized value of a contention window change factor by means of considering addition of new variable channel utilization, and dynamically adjusts by means of the magnitude of the ratio of conflict occurring during the last backoff, thus the change factor obtained is changed, and the contention window is also dynamically adjusted.
