Use of a mixture of GFP-Hadrurina, GFP-GP12 and GFP-Colicin-S4 (and method for obtaining such proteins) proteins for detecting Escherichia coli in a liquid, for example drinking water, bottled drinks, homogenised from food, waste water destined for agricultural use and liquid dairy and canning industry. The invention also relates to a method of detecting Escherichia coli in a liquid comprising: filtering said liquid through a filter, add the GFP-Hadrurina, GFP-GP12 and GFP-Colicin-S4 proteins on said filter, detecting fluorescence signal emitted by the fluorescent molecules present in the filter and quantify the number of E. coli cells present in said liquid from the fluorescence value found in the previous step.
