A method of selective monitoring of the road transport streams in the road network of the city spatiotemporal distribution, by which the traffic intensity monitoring is carried out on the road network sections. In a representative elementary area of the corresponding homogeneous group of the elementary sections of the road network a continuous automatic monitoring of temporal distribution of the road transport streams intensity is carried out by transport detectors to optimize the selective traffic intensity monitoring on the elementary area of the corresponding homogeneous group with readability which is installed on a representative section of this homogeneous group.
