The invention relates to a process for recovering humic substances from a percolate originating from urban solid refuse dumps or the like. According to the invention, the process consists in subjecting the percolate, during the maturation stage at a pH of 7...10, to an evaporation-concentration stage, at a temperature of 50...130° C and a pressure of 5...200 kPa, after which the concentrated percolate is subjected to an acidification stage with an inorganic acid to a pH of 1...3, for the precipitation of humic substances which are further separated from the liquid phase, to result in crude humic substances.
