PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of estimating density distribution within a reactor under each operating condition by using cosmic ray muons.SOLUTION: A method of estimating density distribution within a reactor is associated with operating conditions including a step 1 of repeatedly recording at constant time intervals information on the cumulative intensity of muons passing the interior of the reactor and detected by a muon measuring instrument in each flying direction, a step 2 of recording time variations of operating conditions of the reactor during execution of the step 1, a step 3 of associating the information on the cumulative intensity of the muons at the constant time intervals in each flying direction with the operating conditions on the basis of the information recorded in the step 1 and the step 2, and a step 4 of generating, on the basis of the information obtained in the step 3, the total value of the information on the cumulative intensity in each flying direction detected by the muon measuring instrument under the specific operating conditions.
