PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a method for determining a surface check of a continuously cast slab in which the occurrence of a surface check is estimated by taking into consideration the (cross-sectional) temperature distribution in the thickness direction of the cast slab in a straightening correction zone of a continuous casting machine and the state of the thermal stress originating from the temperature distribution for the occurrence of a surface check.;SOLUTION: When continuously casting steel by a continuous casting machine having a straightening zone at the lower side thereof, the method determines that a check has occurred in a cast slab surface if a linear expansion coefficient ratio αt/αs exceeds a critical linear expansion coefficient ratio αt/αs (cri), where αs is a linear expansion coefficient of the continuously cast slab surface in the lower straightening zone and αt is an average liner expansion coefficient of the cast slab section.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
