The method involves capturing a visual identifier (2) e.g. bar code, positioned in a preset location of an industrial site, and obtaining a local plan of equipment in a local region of the site. A local digital image (4) including a portion of the site having the identifier is captured. The local plan is readjusted with respect to a reference spatial position of the identifier. The digital image and the readjusted plan are displayed on a display screen (10) of a programmable device (6) e.g. digital tablet, and monitoring information associated with the equipment are compiled and displayed. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a programmable device for monitoring an industrial site (2) a system for monitoring an industrial site.
