The method involves powering electric motors (4, 6) by batteries, where electric rolling function of the electric motors is degraded in a driving mode in case of strongly discharged batteries. Significant reduction in torque delivered by the electric motors is imposed. Exit conditions for the driving mode of the electric motors are degraded to a hybrid mode to apply specific starting strategies to a thermal engine (2) for facilitating continuous operation of the thermal engine for a defined time, or for a minimum distance travelled by a vehicle.
