Thermal method for protecting tensioner of e.g. distribution belt, on driving front in combustion engine of car, involves modifying operating conditions of tensioner to maintain or bring back operating temperature in acceptable range
The method involves evaluating operating temperature of a tensioner (1) of a belt (2) and/or an evolution characteristic such as increase speed of the operating temperature on a given lapse of time (a). The operating temperature and/or its characteristic is compared with representative predetermined thresholds of acceptable heating limiting conditions (b). Operating conditions of the tensioner is modified to maintain or bring back the operating temperature in an acceptable range when one of the thresholds is reached or exceeded. An independent claim is also included for a belt or chain tensioner assembly.
