The device has base platforms (112,113) which are adapted to be supported on a base (102). The base supports (103a,103b,104a,104b) are connected to the base platforms. The link drive mechanisms (123,125) are configured to control the grasp and adaptability of the fingers (105,106) to place the third link upon the workpiece. The third link drive mechanism is configured to drive the third link of the fingers to apply a sufficient clamping force upon the workpiece to enable the device to grip, lift, and transport the workpiece.
