Mixture of manganese oxide in the form of isolated single particles of manganese dioxide, manganese(III) oxide and/or manganese(II,III) oxide, useful as a component of batteries and as a catalyst in chemical processes
Mixture of manganese oxide present in the form of isolated single particles of manganese dioxide as a main component, manganese(III) oxide and/or manganese(II,III) oxide, where the manganese dioxide has a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area of 5-50 m 2/g, is claimed. An independent claim is included for a process for preparing the mixture of manganese oxide, comprising (a) igniting a reaction mixture containing a mixture of one or more oxidizable and/or hydrolyzable manganese compounds, one or more combustion gases and one or more oxygen-containing gases in a first zone of a flow reactor, (b) reacting a flow reactor with an oxygen-containing gas and/or a material composed of oxygen in a second zone under the prevailing reaction conditions, and (c) optionally cooling the reaction mixture in the third zone of the flow reactor, and then separating a solid from gaseous or vaporous substances.
