The method involves detecting operation activity of body portion (24) of user (28) by using optical sensor unit (10). The detected operation activity is transmitted (S10) to control device (16) for generating control action signal that is reached on device (18) located in sensor-free surface (O) in interior (I) of vehicle. The control device determines (S20) distance (d1) at which control action signal is generated. The sensor unit generates (S40) signal for triggering function of device in vehicle while determined distance (d1) is smaller than threshold value (d0). Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a control device for generating control action signal; and (2) a motor vehicle.
