The pump has a pumping workspace that is connected with a low pressure inlet (34) and a high pressure outlet (38). A first housing portion (10) is arranged in a retainer of a support element. A second housing portion (60) is connected at the first housing portion towards the longitudinal axis of a cylinder bore. The second housing portion is fastened at the support element by an attachment element (74). The first housing portion is held on the support element over the second housing portion. An independent claim is included for an internal combustion engine.
