The method involves obtaining a parameter which describes radiation flux produced by several heliostats (9) on a receiver (5) in solar power plant (1), and a parameter which describe intercept power of receiver. The time course of the radiation flux parameter and intercept power parameter, and the parameters for transient operating limits of receiver are determined and evaluated during design of heliostat assembly (7). The arrangement of heliostats with respect to receiver is performed based on the evaluation result. An independent claim is included for a method for optimizing solar power plant.
