The engine has inlet- and exhaust valves arranged at combustion chambers. A valve train is provided with inlet and exhaust valve-side cam shafts (1, 2) and for controlling the inlet- and exhaust valves. The inlet and exhaust valve-side cam shafts are in drive-connection with each other within the valve train in an enforced manner. One of the cam shafts is formed as a Cam-in-Cam shaft. A drive connection between the cam shafts is provided by directly combing cam shaft-side gear wheels (4, 5) with each other. The cam shafts are arranged at top of a cylinder head of the engine.
