The device has a lighting unit for lighting a sample (2) and comprising a lighting belt (5) that partially surrounds a sample mount (1) in a plane that is perpendicular to a detection direction. The belt comprises a light inlet opening (6) for radiation of light in form of a light sheet along a radiation pattern in a space that is surrounds by the belt. An end of an optical fiber (7) is coupled to the light inlet opening. A movement generation unit generates a relative movement between the sample and the light sheet such that a relative movement is generated between the belt and the sample.
