The device (1) has a screw (3) rotatably guided in a jacket tube (2) and displaceable toward a longitudinal axis (X) of the tube. The screw is displaceable towards the longitudinal axis of the tube and comprises a rear screw portion and a front screw portion that is connected with a drill head (4). The screw portions are articulatedly coupled with one another. The front screw portion is supported within the tube such that front screw portion is pivotable by a change in a slope of the hinged support during axial displacement of the screw in relation to the longitudinal axis of the tube. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a drilling device.
