The method comprises evaluating emissions of plasma generated between a workpiece and a burner by a spectrometer and emission spectroscopy. Characteristic spectral lines are analyzed in an emission spectrum, where hydrogen, oxygen, copper, tungsten, and additional materials that are used during a welding or injection process, are analyzed. A surface temperature of a material of the workpiece is measured and used as a correction factor for the temperature of the plasma. A plasma temperature is calculated by comparing two argon lines in the spectrum in order to obtain an electron temperature. An independent claim is included for a device for non-contact monitoring of welding or spraying processes.
