The method involves determining a rotational speed of front wheel (12) or rear wheel (14) of a vehicle (10). The driving speed is calculating based on the rotational speed and characteristic value of the wheels. An effective radius (R-eff) indicating the spacing between rotation axes (A-12-A-14) of the wheels and circle, is computed when driving along the curves and/or when a roll angle is greater than 10[deg] , where the contact points (B) of the wheels with a base (15) lies on the spacing. An independent claim is included for a single-lane vehicle.
