The method involves allocating a lifelong vehicle identifier to a person during acquisition of driving authority, where the vehicle identifier is stored on personal identification card. The identification card is read in the vehicle before starting a vehicle. The identification card is externally viewed as a vehicle flagstone until a driver of the vehicle is changed and the identification card is removed. Selected signals of a display e.g. image screen and LED tape, are displayable and transmitable such that the vehicle identifier is readable from outside of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a device for identifying a vehicle.
