The fuel cell (3) consists of a stack of single cell (30) that is equipped with a cathode chamber (5) and an anode chamber (4). The cathode chamber is connected to the anode chamber with a connecting line (21). A pair of valve component (23,24) is respectively arranged between a storage chamber (22) and the cathode chamber, and between the storage chamber and the anode chamber. An independent claim is included for a method of operating a fuel cell.
