The method involves dividing a fuel cell stack (3) into two sub stacks (3a, 3b) relative to anode chambers (5a, 5b). The sub stacks are supplied with fuel from a fuel source (8) e.g. compressed gas storage, in parallel. Parallel subflows of the fuel are influenced by valve devices (17a, 17b). Supply of the parallel sub stacks with the fuel is carried out in phase wise during operating a fuel cell system (1) so that each subflow is pulsated relative to a volume flow and/or a pressure. Pulsations of the subflows are added so that a common fuel flow is not pulsated before division into subflows. The valve devices are 2/2 directional valves. An independent claim is also included for a device for fuel supply of a fuel cell system.
