The fuel storage device (3) has a tank cover (9) for delimiting a reservoir (5) that is used for storing a fuel (7), where a tensioning rod (11) is arranged in the storage space and is stressed on the sides of the tank cover. A tensioning rod interior space is delimited by the tensioning rod, where the tensioning rod interior space is free from fuel. A fastening device is arranged inside the tensioning rod interior space for the mechanical connection of the tank cover with a body of a motor vehicle (1). The tensioning rod has a level sensor for measuring a capacity of the fuel tank.
