The method involves performing a spectral analysis of a direct TV signal to obtain a frequency spectrum (10a), and performing a spectral analysis of a backscattered TV signal to obtain another frequency spectrum (10b). A normalization of lines of the latter spectrum is performed (20), and a ratio of each line of the latter spectrum to that of the former spectrum is calculated. A bistatic distance of the target is extracted (30) by performing a Fourier transform of the ratio, and a distance (L) and an angle (theta) of the location of the target is derived (40) from the bistatic distance.
