PURPOSE: A serial voltage compensation based automatic voltage adjuster capable of including an AC chopper is provided to rapidly compensate the drop or rising of the input voltage. CONSTITUTION: An automatic voltage adjuster(100) comprises an AC chopper(110), a transformer(120), a bypass circuit(130), a voltage detector(140), a polarity detector(150), and a controller(160). The AC chopper converts and outputs the input voltage into the alternating current in a predetermined ratio. The transformer serially compensates the input voltage to the compensation voltage. The bypass circuit determines the phase of the compensation voltage. The voltage detector detects the input voltage. The polarity detector detects the polarity of the input voltage. The controller controls the switches of the AC chopper based on the input voltage which is detected by the voltage detector or the polarity of input voltage which is detected through the polarity detector.
