The present invention relates to a cognitive network and a method for selecting a gateway node in the cognitive radio network. The cognitive network according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises at least one base station and a plurality of second user nodes which use idle channels, wherein the idle channels are currently not used by a first user node among frequency channels allocated by the base station. The second user nodes form a plurality of clusters by using an adjacent node information and the idle channel information, and select a head node among second user nodes which are included in each cluster. The selected head node in each cluster selects a gateway node by using information about channels between a plurality of second user nodes included in a relevant cluster and an adjacent cluster.
