The invention concerns a method for tracking a target in an image sequence. The method comprises: - a step (21) of detecting objects, - a step (22) of temporal association, aiming to associate the objects detected in the current image with the objects detected in the previous image depending on the respective positions of same, - a step (232) of determining a second target in the current image on the basis of a search area determined for a previous image of the sequence, - a step (49) of determining the detected object that best corresponds with the dynamics of an end target, - a step (45, 47) of updating the search area for the current image from the position of the target that best corresponds with the dynamics of the end target, and - a step (24) of searching for the end target in the search area for the current image by comparing areas of the current image with a reference model representative of the end target.
