Disclosed are a sand and water separation system, and a sand and water separation method. The sand and water separation system comprises a dehydration screen (1), a swirler or a swirler group (4), and a vibrating and screening device (15). The vibrating and screening device (15) and the wide-amplitude water-storage-type dehydration screen (1) are integrated on a base; the swirler or the swirler group (4) is integrated above the wide-amplitude water-storage-type dehydration screen (1) via a support frame; a sand and water mixture is conveyed between the vibrating and screening device (15) and the wide-amplitude water-storage-type dehydration screen (1) via a sand flowing groove (16); the wide-amplitude water-storage-type dehydration screen (1) is located on a machine frame (7) via a shock absorber (6); the wide-amplitude water-storage-type dehydration screen (1) is driven by a shock excitation motor or a camshaft driving mechanism (10); a wide-amplitude water storage tank (5) is located below the wide-amplitude water-storage-type dehydration screen (1); a material inlet of the swirler or the swirler group (4) is communicated with an outlet of a slurry pump (8), which is located at the side of the machine frame, via a conveying pipeline; and the slurry pump is driven by a motor (9) via a belt driving mechanism.
