The present invention relates to a composition for treating or preventing inflammatory diseases and, more particularly, to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating inflammatory diseases, containing Myagropsis myagroides extract or a fraction of the extract as an active ingredient. Even though the Myagropsis myagroides extract or the fraction of the extract of the present invention does not contain the conventionally known fucoxanthin, the Myagropsis myagroides extract or the fraction of the extract exhibits the effects of effectively inhibiting the expression of iNOS and COX-2 and the generation of nitrogen monoxide (NO), prostaglandin E₂ (PGE₂) and inflammatory cytokines, and thus can be useful for preventing and treating inflammatory diseases.
