The invention relates to a generic method or device for defining, learning, simulating and controlling a system of discrete events. By means of a generic modeling of the sensors and of at least one actuator, it is possible to define at least one system which groups together the sensors and at least one actuator, in order to associate a generic model with each system, and then combine at least two systems into one. A database forms the core of the system and can be fed either manually or using CAD software. According to defined criteria and a sample of the operation of the automated system, the automated system simulator (s) and at least one state sequencer for each of the sets can be combined using the method and the device. .
