Apparatus for producing post-larvae of the Giant Freshwater Prawn comprising: a) one or more cylindo-conical larval rearing tanks; b) air diffuser ring for creating up flow/down flow water circulation within said tanks; c) standpipe/s to hold water level; d) standpipe filter/s (30) to allow uneaten Artemia naupili and other wastes to pass for filtration but not Giant Freshwater Prawn larvae; e) pressurized spray ring to inhibit larvae from sticking to the standpipe filter (30) and around the tank wall surface above the waterline; f) filtration means for removal of particulate wastes and biological conversion of toxic ammonia to less toxic nitrite, and the less toxic nitrite to non-toxic nitrate, in system water; g) means for returning said system water to larval tanks; h) heating and chilling means for said system water with said system water maintained at a constant 30 degrees Celsius +/- 0.3 degrees Celsius, and i) means of sterilization of system water.
