An improved installation and method for pumping fluids, such as water and / or hydrocarbons, from subterranean formations or pools is proposed by using an installation with a crank-slider submersible pump (CPGN) for the transmission of essentially reciprocating vertical movement to the rod of a sucker rod pump having a piston stroke. The KPGN installation includes a crank-slider drive unit powered by an electric motor. The crank-slider drive assembly includes, essentially, a slider attached to a sucker rod pump rod to control the vertical movement transmitted to the sucker rod pump rod. The drive unit may include a pneumatic counterweight.
