The device has dedicated short range communication short range communication (DSRC) transceiver that establishes a DSRC radio interface. A marking vehicle (5) detects traffic or toll violation of on-board unit (3) or of vehicle (2), and transmits a marker to on-board unit through DSRC radio interface, if violation exists. The on-board unit determines the position to periodically broadcast position messages containing the respective current position upon receipt of marker. A control unit detects vehicle based on position messages broadcast by on-board unit. An independent claim is included for a control method for road toll system.
