PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance operability of a user by reducing the need to set consciously of the level of brightness of environment or existence of a delay time related to insertion and removal of an infrared cut-off filter.SOLUTION: The image pick-up device including control means for inserting and removing an infrared cut-off filter on the optical path in an image pick-up optical system is further provided with reception means receiving a third instruction for instructing the control means to perform automatic control of insertion and removal of an infrared cut-off filter, and determination means for determining whether or not the third instruction includes additional information on the basis of an output from the reception means. The control means controls insertion and removal of an infrared cut-off filter on the basis of the additional information if the determination means determines that the third instruction includes additional information, otherwise controls insertion and removal of an infrared cut-off filter on the basis of the control information which the control means has previously.
