PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing tatami mats, and a tatami mat for combative sports that prevent a tatami facing from getting slack and creased in summer and facilitate replacement of the tatami facing, when the tatami facing becomes dirty or is damaged.;SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing tatami mats 1 for combative sports includes: a base mat production step of fixing a shock-absorbing plate 12 to a core material 11 to form a base mat 14; a sewing step of fixing a cloth 16 onto the shock-absorbing plate 12, the cloth 16 formed by applying hot melt paste to a surface coming into contact with a tatami facing 15, covering it with the tatami facing 15, and sewing the tatami facing 15 on the base mat 14 while applying tension to the tatami facing 15 to fix the tatami facing 15 to the base mat 14; and hot press step of pressurizing and heating them from the surface of the tatami facing 15 to fix the tatami facing 15 and the shock-absorbing plate 12.
