PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for estimating an expected error of a position estimate for use in a Wireless LAN positioning system for estimating a position of a wireless LAN-enabled device.SOLUTION: A wireless LAN-enabled device receives signals transmitted by a wireless LAN access point in a band width of the wireless LAN-enabled device. A method estimates a position of the wireless LAN-enabled device on the basis of the received signals from a wireless LAN access point in the band width of the wireless LAN-enabled device. The method also estimates an expected error of the position estimate of the wireless LAN-enabled device on the basis of characteristics of the wireless LAN access point in the band width of the wireless LAN-enabled device, where the expected error predicts a relative accuracy of the position estimate.
