A system provides feedback for energy saving to a user of a property comprising a plurality of appliances. It comprises a sensor (14, Fig.1a) which monitors energy (e.g. electricity, gas) consumption of the appliances; a user interface (10, Fig.1a) to provide feedback to the user; and a processor (12, Fig.1a). The processor is configured to receive input data from an energy bill for the property covering a predetermined period; receive input regional average statistics regarding energy consumption for a set of categories of energy usage (e.g. lighting, cooking, heating) S102; generate a model of energy usage within multiple categories over the period by combining the input data, the sensed energy consumption data and generic statistics regarding energy consumption S104-S114; and output, via the user interface, feedback based on the generated model. The sensors may provide non-intrusive electricity monitoring.
