The system (10) has a data collection device (14) for collection of data on a data bus (12). A communication terminal (15) i.e. telephone, is connected to the data collection device. A central server (16) is arranged common to a set of vehicles. The central server comprises a database (16.1) to store data and alarms coming from the vehicle. A transmission module (16.2) transmits alarms bound for a maintenance tool (17) that comprises a reception module for reception of alarms, and an emission module for emission of the alarms for a maintenance operator. An independent claim is also included for a method for providing maintenance assistance to a vehicle.
