The method involves measuring light energies for interaction of photons with a single crystal detector bar at its ends. The energies are filtered to eliminate Compton interactions in favor of photoelectric interactions. The filtering process is executed based on initial calibration of the energies according to interaction position of radiation determined along the bar by comparing an image with a minimum energy threshold and/or with a maximum energy threshold depending on energy function of the measured energies. The filtering operation is performed by processing coincidences in a determination module if image value is greater/less than the minimum/maximum threshold. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an improved method for determining depth of interaction to estimate position of impact of a gamma photon in a gamma photons single crystal detector bar of a positron emission tomography imaging device (2) a positron emission tomography imaging device.
