The method involves constructing an area of two or more differential spectra (201), where one spectrum corresponds to difference between two cumulated spectra obtained with variation of specified seconds and another spectrum corresponds to difference between cumulated spectra obtained with variation of another specified seconds that is larger than the former specified seconds. A non-parametric statistical test is implemented (204) for comparison of two or more samples, which are utilized corresponding to the differential spectra to detect change of activity in an area. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a safety gantry for detecting change of activity in a spectrum built (2) a detection device for monitoring a nuclear installation (3) a robot for extracting ores and/or radioactive sources.
