Preparing an organic solution of a dialkyl peroxydicarbonate in a liquid organic solvent (S), comprises reacting, in a medium containing water, alkyl haloformate with an inorganic peroxide, where the liquid organic solvent is esters derived from at least aliphatic monocarboxylic acid and at least an aliphatic saturated monohydric alcohol. Independent claims are included for: (1) organic solution of dialkyl peroxydicarbonate in a liquid organic solvent obtained by the method; and (2) preparing polymer derived from halogenated ethylenically unsaturated monomers comprising polymerizing at least a halogenous ethylenically unsaturated monomer in aqueous suspension or aqueous microsuspension, in the presence of an initiator including at least a dialkyl peroxydicarbonate.
