The method involves developing (S1) a list (L1) of functional modules (3) belonging to a specification (Sp1), and developing (S2) another list (L2) of functional modules belonging to another specification (Spn). Pairs of the modules are identified (S41), where each pair includes the modules belonging to the lists. Inputs/outputs are calculated by calculating number of inputs and outputs of additional modules (S4) of the lists with respect to the identified modules. Evolution parameter of functional size of software is calculated (S5) from a sum of the calculated numbers of inputs and outputs. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product directly downloadable in a memory of a computer system, comprising software code portions for executing a method for measuring evolution of functional size of software (2) a data processing system readable medium comprising instructions executable by a computer for executing a method for measuring evolution of functional size of software.
