The system has an overall schedule including a scheduled for transmission of periodic frames. A program schedule defines a slot for periodic emission of event frames, where the event and periodic frames are transmitted on a bus by all nodes (1, 2) of a controller area network (CAN). A determining unit determines a timing reference node, and a configuring unit configures a reference node to emit synchronization frames to be received by the other nodes, where synchronization frames include information to synchronize the program schedule for transmitting frames as defined in a specific schedule.
