The method involves manufacturing a relief decoration (38) reproducing a structure of a noise source, and positioning the decoration on an outer surface (36) of a wall of an acoustic chamber (32). Power and frequency of an exiting source i.e. loudspeaker, is adjusted so as to obtain, at preset distance of the decoration, characteristic acoustic pressure spectra from the source. The source is operated and the spectra are measured at the distance with and without a casing covering the decoration. The spectra are compared to determine acoustic behavior of the casing. An independent claim is also included for a device for testing acoustic behavior of a casing that covers a noise source.
